HYGGEME started from a passion to live a happier and content life . The first time I came across the word HYGGE I instantly connected with it and was drawn to research it further . HYGGE was all about a feeling that couldn't be translated and was very much centred round the home , family and friends . It was about learning to enjoy life's simple pleasures and being grateful for simple everyday pleasures .
As I read more about HYGGE I soon realised HYGGE was not just about the home , a trend or passing phase it was far more than that and I realised HYGGE should be applied to yourself not just your home . I created HYGGEME as I wanted a place where people would be drawn to come to to feel positive ,uplifted , happy and get inspiration to live a better life . I wanted to show how being happy did not mean having more money , more clothes or a bigger house . I wanted people to read and be inspired to start enjoying the simple pleasures of life that we all take for granted everyday .
Happiness comes from the inside and applying HYGGE to yourself and changing your mindset can have a positive impact to all aspects of your life .
For the past 3 weeks I have been travelling a lot for work . The leaving is always difficult . I miss my beautiful girls terribly and it's the simple things that I can't wait to return home to and see and feel . Alice's gorgeous smile and Molly's little arms wrapped round me giving me the best feeling in the world , one that is difficult to translate just like HYGGE .
When I travel there are certain things that I pack and take with me instinctively to give me that HYGGE feeling . It's something I've never really thought about , until now , but there a few essentials always in my hand luggage to make me feel connected to home and keep me feeling comfortable and content when traveling .
A WRAP - I have always had a love scarves and wraps . I , until recently , had a wardrobe full of them . I recently had a clear out after reading about simplifying all aspects of your life including your wardrobe . I now have a dozen carefully chosen ones folded neatly which I love and use all the time . Every time I set off on any journey or trip it is the first item I chose and always pack . This always is either worn when I set off or packed in my hand luggage . I have done this for years and my daughters are getting into this habit too, It is of course partly to be used to keep me warm as temperatures and climates change however it is so much more than just that . It is , to me , a security blanket . The moment I wrap it round or lay it over me i feel safe , comortable and gives me the feeling I get from my home . It also has come in very handy for many a panic moment . When in Abu Dhabi and realising my shorts were way too short , as I entered a building to use a cash line , I quickly opened it and wrapped it round me to cover me to my knees . i have Cotton ones , linen ones but you can't beat the feel of soft cashmere when it is wrapped round you to give you that HYGGE feeling . I could not travel with out one . I recently came across these beautiful ones , knitted in Hawick Scotland by Johnstons of Elgin . They do them in a variety of colours and are so soft and light to travel with . The perfect cashmere wrap to give you the HYGGEME feeling . Find below the link to their wonderful website . An investment piece for a lifetime full of journeys .
A BOOK - An essential for me on any journey . Whether I get to read one paragraph or one page I always have to have one . It goes back to the feeling of feeling at home, that HYGGE feeling . Just having it with me reminds me of my home where I love to have a book by my bed every morning and night . I love self help books and I am constantly adding to my collection , however I also love inspirational books . I recently purchased the Jo Malone My Story . This was hugely inspirational to me a women ,with dyslexia , fought breast cancer , who left school with no qualifications turned her fortunes around to become one of the world's most successful business women . Well worth purchasing as a great addition to any bookshelf or bedside table .Can be bought from most book stores , I ordered it online from Waterstones ,link below . Jo loves website also offers it as a limited edition along with her signature scent Pomelo , link below .
A CANDLE - I always travel with one even if I never use it . If I get the chance to relax in my room at night it brings back the scent of my home . I have always loved candles scented or unscented . I love the light they create , I am not big on bright overhead lights in my house . Where possible I use only the odd table lamp then create my light with candles . It is a calming , soft light that creates that HYGGE feeling . As for scents there are so many I love ! I have, over the years, found the perfect travel companion in the Shearer Candles tins . They last for ages , approx 40 hours burn time and they have them in so many wonderful fragrances . The herb one is one of my favourites with top notes of mint it creates a fresh, clean and crisp scent which gives you the feeling of your garden on a crisp sunny morning , HYGGE in a tin . The herb natural spa tin can be found through the link below .
A COMFORT BALM - This miracle balm was given to me as a gift recently and it has been an essential in my travel bag ever since . I have always loved the scent of lavender and have benefited from the calming results the scent gives . This wonderful balm not only helps to calm me , throughout my travels , but is perfect for my lips and hands which get tired and dry with all the hotel rooms , planes and exhibition halls i visit . Ermana also do this in a perfect travel size , 15ml , so can easily fit into your hand luggage or hand bag . A good all round product to help comfort you at the end of the day , work as rescue balm on your lips and hands and just a wonderfully scented product to bring a little bit of HYGGE to yourself and TLC when needed .

Bringing HYGGE to my life has helped me lead a happier, calmer and more contended life . Simple pleasures such as a good book , currying up on the sofa with a cup or tea or enjoying cooking dinner with my girls are what makes me happy . Finding small ways of creating HYGGE to myself and my life , when away from home , are essential for my well being . Everyone will have different examples of what creates the HYGGE feeling in their life.
